The Atlanta Falcons saw a tightly contested game against the Green Bay Packers. No, not in the NFC Championship Game, but in Week 8 at the Georgia Dome. Cheeseheads made their presence felt. Everywhere you looked, you saw those hideous, hole-filled triangle headpieces that somehow fit on craniums. Thanks to Matt Ryan’s game-winning touchdown pass to Mohamed Sanu with 31 seconds left, the cheese on the heads of Packers fans melted.
With a statement win against Aaron Rodgers and the Packers, Atlanta traveled to Tampa for a Thursday night showdown against the Bucs in the final regular season meeting between both teams. Clearly it proved to be a tale of two teams who have shifted directions. The Falcons came in at 5-3 while the Bucs had lost four of the last six games following the win at Atlanta. Fueled by the offense, the Falcons posted their third 40-plus point performance (all three coming against NFC South opponents) in a decisive 43-28 win over Tampa.
With the offense rolling, the only thing that would slow the Falcons down would be the bye week, right? Not so fast. The Eagles in a mid-November Philadelphia afternoon held the high-powered offense to a season-low 15 points.
